Louis Tomlinson, one of the former members of One Direction, has taken the road on his first ever solo world tour. This tour was originally scheduled a few years back, but it was delayed due to COVID 19. Beginning his world tour in America, Louis has been traveling up and down the east coast, recently stopping for a sold out show in New York City.
Having two shows back to back in the same venue allowed many fans who had general admission pit tickets to run right out of their first night to jump back into line and camp out for hopes of barricade.
My friends and I were among those people. After almost 18 hours of waiting, it was finally time for the doors to open and fans to be let in. Running in the venue, everyone settled in their spot, talking to the fans around them and just listening to the music over the speakers while waiting for the opening act.
For the USA leg of the tour, Louis brought the band Sun Room alongside to open for him every night. These boys, ages 18-22, came out around seven p.m. and everyone was really excited to hear them.
Judging by the crowd, it seemed to be the perfect opening act for Louis. After they left the stage suddenly the music volume increased trifold and lights started to shift from natural yellow to bright blue. Everyone stilled, wondering if Louis was about to appear.
Louis’ iconic smiley face icon fell from the ceiling leaving a backdrop and his backup band came out to the stage. One of my personal favorite songs “We Made It” began and everyone started to cheer. As the show went on everyone danced and cheered excited to see him for one of the first times performing as a solo artist.
He continued his performance only stopping briefly to help out a fan by getting security since they were starting to feel ill.
Near the end of the show, one fan in particular thought it would be funny to throw chicken nuggets on stage, referring back to a time when Louis was in One Direction and had thrown a chicken nugget at fans as a joke. Surprisingly enough, they had very good aim leading Louis to respond with “Who has hit me in the head with a chicken nugget? You’re taking the piss now, have it back,” while laughing and throwing it back at them.
At last, Louis sang “Kill My Mind”, the lead song on his album Walls. Thanking the crowd for everything we had done and everyone involved in bringing the concert to life, Louis left the stage leaving us in what many concert-goers jokingly call “post-concert depression”. Despite the show itself only lasting a few hours, the friends we make in the fans along the way last for way longer.
