This past week, the Monmouth University Men’s Golf team opened their 2022 spring season in the Saint Leo Invitational in Saint Leo, Florida. Monmouth’s best and final round of the weekend was 302.
Freshman Colin McCullagh was Monmouth’s top finisher overall in the event and was aided by his middle-round 73. The six-time Met PGA Tournament winner’s performance at the Invitational was the first time in his career that he finished at the top of Monmouth’s card. It’s a great finish for the freshman Hawk.
The best single score of the weekend was junior Erik Stevens’ final round 72. On the weekend, Stevens’ second-round 72 was the best for a Monmouth player. Stevens is also the Hawk that leads Monmouth men’s golfers with a 73.6 stroke average. This 72 is no surprise since last year, the junior placed in the top 10 four times.
Three Hawks rounded out the field together including senior Brendan Smith, sophomore Travis Dix, and December MAAC Golfer of the Month, fifth year student Ron Robinson. Competing as individuals were freshman Colt Ingram and junior Matt McCormick.
Overall, Monmouth collected a score of 927 which was good for their finish of 16th place.
Looking ahead, the men’s golf team is focusing on the South Jersey Spring Kickoff where they will compete at the Shore Gate Golf Club this weekend. The two-day event will take place on March 5 and 6.
