On Thursday, April 10, and Saturday, April 12, the women’s and men’s lacrosse teams both fell short against competitors in CAA games.
The women played Drexel at Kessler Stadium at 3:00 pm on Thursday. Drexel is currently first in the conference and is on a winning streak of eight games that continued to extend after this game.
The first ten minutes of the game were filled with strong defenses with no goals. Drexel first scored around the ten-minute mark and ended with a 2-0 advantage going into the second quarter.
A few minutes into the second, the Hawks junior midfielder, Sophia Lymberis, scored unassisted. Shortly after, Drexel took an 8-1 lead going into the break.
The third and fourth quarters were filled with points from both teams. Senior attack Caroline Brennan scored all four goals for Monmouth in the second half. This is the third time this season she’s scored at least three times in a single game.
Senior midfielder Danielle McNeely and junior attack Shea Berigan both had two assists for Monmouth, but the Hawks were unable to take control of the game and lost 15-5.
In total, Drexel won 15 out of 23 draws and earned 11 free-position opportunities, helping them win their ninth consecutive game.
Two days later, the men’s team played at noon against Stony Brook in New York, also unable to pull out a win.
After the first quarter, Monmouth led 4-3, with junior attack Ty Caffarelli scoring twice. In the second, Monmouth kept control of the game and scored three times. Graduate student and midfielder Sean Ketchen scored two in a row, and Cafarelli came back to score another with three seconds to go into the half.
With a 7-5 advantage starting the third quarter, the Hawks scored twice, one from Ketchen again.
In the final quarter, the Hawks weren’t able to get a goal, however, Stony Brook was able to score five. This led the Seawolves to victory with a final score of 13-9.
