The Monmouth Hawks (9-33) were handed a tough loss on the road by the score of 14-1 against the Stony Brook Seawolves (18-18) this past Sunday (4/13/25). The Seawolves bats came to play early as they managed to put up 11 runs in the first two innings against the Hawks, which set the tone for the rest of the game.
In the bottom of the first inning Stony Brook went up 2-0 after a double by Madelyn Stepski that scored two runners.
Later in the first inning, Emily Reinstein hit a three run homerun and Naiah Ackerman hit a two run home run, putting the Hawks in a 7-0 hole after just one inning.
Monmouth put a run up in the top of the fifth inning after sophomore infielder Giana Scotti hit an RBI double that allowed senior infielder Isabella Slape to score, making it 14-1 in favor of Stony Brook.
This run was the only time Seawolves pitcher Crimson Rice would allow the Hawks to score, helping Rice pick up the win (8-4).
The story of this game was Stony Brook’s hitters coming to life and Rice pitching a gem, only allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run through 5 innings, resulting in the 14-1 loss for the Hawks.
Monmouth will look to bounce back when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to take on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Wednesday Apr. 16 at 3:30pm.
