Who’s really shining on “Dancing with the Stars” season 34?

This season of “Dancing with the Stars” (DWTS) might just be one of the most competitive ones yet. Some celebrities are genuinely improving week by week, while others seem to dance on favoritism. Here are my opinions on who deserves to take home the Mirrorball Trophy.

Alix Earle & Val Chmerkovskiy: I never thought I’d say this, but I’m officially rooting for Earle. Before DWTS, she seemed like another influencer who randomly gained a huge following. Yet, watching her grow on the show has changed my perspective. I loved her Maleficent Disney night dance which was dark, dramatic, and surprisingly graceful. Her dedication night dance to her sister was raw and emotional. Sure, she’s still a little stiff, but the effort shows. You can see how much she wants it, and Chmerkovskiy brings out her best.

Dylan Efron & Daniella Karagach: Efron’s the definition of a latecomer in the best way. His dedication dance to his little sister, to “Rewrite The Stars” sung by his brother Zac Efron was beautiful. The emotion, the control, and the connection with Karagach easily made this his best dance earning every single nine. His dances have been full of personality. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and has managed to improve massively every week. If there’s a definition of growth on this show, it’s Efron.

Danielle Fishel & Pasha Pashkov: I grew up loving the show “Boy Meets World,” and Fishel’s character Topanga. Fishel has a classic charm, but dance isn’t her best lane. Her foxtrot from TikTok night to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” was classy and fit her vibe making it her best dance. However, there is a disconnect between her and Pashkov. I was disappointed by her dedication dance, which featured Mr. Feeny. The dance felt too cheesy, partly from the style of the dance being a jive. She’s got top-five potential, but she is not championship ready.

Elaine Hendrix & Alan Bersten: Hendrix is talented, but her routines just don’t stick. I can’t remember a single dance except for “Everlasting Love” from dedication night. She hits the steps, but something is missing. I know fans like her, but I see her as the type of contestant that gets solid scores and votes, but doesn’t make a real impression.

Jen Affleck & Jan Ravnik: I never watched “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” so I wasn’t aware of her and Whitney Leavitt. From watching this season so far, the judges are way too harsh on Affleck. She’s not perfect, but she’s better than her scores suggest. There’s a sweetness to her performances that makes her likable. She might not have a massive fan base, but she’s got heart and that’s worth something.

Jordan Chiles & Ezra Sosa: Chiles is so underrated. Her TikTok night routine was strong and her dedication to her dad was handled with real grace. As a gymnast, she’s got control and performance value. Still, I don’t see her making it to the end, because this season is stacked with big personalities and fan-favorites.

Robert Irwin & Witney Carson: Irwin is my winner for this season. His first dance was one of the best openers DWTS has had. It was bold and technically solid for someone who has never danced before. Nevertheless, the judges have been inconsistent. His dedication dance was choreographed beautifully making it so heartfelt. Yet he still didn’t get straight nines? Carrie Ann seriously fumbled his scoring. Irwin’s Disney dance had lower energy, but he saved it with his dedication dance. With tears in my eyes, it was beautiful how he dedicated it to his mom.

Scott Hoying & Rylee Arnold: I like Hoying and Arnold! Their TikTok night performance to “Jenny” was fun and well-choreographed. However, ballroom just isn’t his strong suit, compared to dancers like Irwin or Earle. Still, I appreciate the warmth he brings every week.

Whitney Leavitt & Mark Ballas: They’re good, I can’t lie. Unfortunately that’s exactly why she annoys me. Leavitt is one of the best dancers, but the judges favor Ballas too much. Especially when she made a visual mistake in her dedication dance. As much as I regard her talent, I’m secretly hoping she doesn’t win.

Andy Richter & Emma Slater: Last but not least is Richter. He’s fun, he’s trying, and it’s sweet to see him push through each week. If we compare him to everyone else, I feel his time is up. Still, I respect him for not giving up.

Overall Irwin, Earle, and Efron are my top three. Realistically, the finale will likely be Irwin, Earle, and Leavitt. As far as judges go I’m displeased with Ann. I think Kym Herjavec, who guest judged, can fill her spot. There is so much talent this season that the stakes keep getting higher. Watch each Tuesday to see the outcome of this incredible season!
