SGA Student Feedback Week update

On Feb. 26 Monmouth University Student Government Association (SGA) President Brendan Sheehan sent an email to the student body addressing his concerns regarding engagement on Monmouth’s campus.

Sheehan said, “I hear the murmurs of frustration. Occasionally, I see a Yik Yak with a valid concern about academics, dining, facilities, or issues impacting the student experience. But here’s the truth: complaining to each other does nothing to bring about change if it does not reach those with the power to act.”

The SGA President included in the email that the University’s Division of Academic Affairs sent inquiring sophomore students about their experiences with first-year advising. About 700 sophomore students were contacted and 18 students responded.

Sheehan established in his email that if students want change participation is not optional. Adding that their Student Feedback Form is active, as well as their Instagram and email address.

Four days after this email was sent, on Monday Mar. 2, SGA’s Student Feedback Week began. In the span of one week, SGA received 110 responses compared to 70 last semester. Sheehan said in addition to the responses, he received nearly a dozen emails directly to him compared to two emails last semester.

Sheehan said, “It was great seeing the increase in responses from the students who have genuine concerns impacting their student experience. We continue to follow up with our colleagues in the administration regarding concerns brought forth and those discussions are productive and ongoing. We continue to encourage students to reach out to the SGA with any questions, ideas, or concerns. We’re here for you and stand ready to respond to the students we represent.”
