Fifth year senior goalie, Ashley Lewis, was named the ECAC Division I Defensive Player of the Week on Thursday, Nov. 14. Lewis posted three straight shutouts to help lead the Hawks to the MAAC Tournament Championship. She was in net for 13 out of 16 shutouts the Hawks recorded this season.

Dana Costello: Soaring Through the Record Books
Being an athlete is difficult in itself; however to play consistently at a high level is what separates the good players from the great ones. It is very rare when a player can leave their mark on a program’s athletic history at any level. Yet, that is exactly what senior forward Dana Costello has done over her illustrious career as a women’s soccer player at Monmouth.
Women Cagers Drop Season Opener to Yale
The Hawks fell to the Yale Bulldogs 64-55 in the season opener on Saturday, Nov. 9 at home. Senior forward Shira Shecht scored a career high 13 points while freshman guard Mia Hopkins dropped seven points to go along with nine rebounds in her first college game.
Hawks Use Fast Start to Down Wagner, 23-6
All it took was five plays for the Hawks football team to take a two score lead. With the fast start, the defense ratcheted the pressure and shut down the Wagner Seahawks en route to a 23-6 MU victory. The win brings the Hawks record to an even 5-5, while Wagner falls to 2-8 this season.
Men’s Basketball Wins Season Opener, 88-84
The University’s men’s basketball team started its season strong as they went on the road and took down the Hofstra Pride 88-84 on Friday, Nov. 8. Junior transfer Deon Jones led the Hawks in scoring with 22 points and added nine rebounds and two assists.

Men’s soccer lost their final regular season game of the year on Saturday, Nov. 9 to Canisius Golden Griffins in double overtime.The final score was 1-0.
Women’s Soccer Wins MAAC Championship Title
All weekend, the Hawks have been competing as the top seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament in Orlando, FL. For the first time in University history, the Hawks became MAAC Champions when they defeated the Fairfield University Stags on Monday, Nov. 4.
Soccer Clinches MAAC Conference Title
The men’s soccer team clinched at least a share of the regular season MAAC conference title, as well as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAAC championships, this past week with a scoreless tie against the Manhattan Jaspers and a 2-0 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles.
Cross Country Finishes in the Top Five
The MU cross country teams competed in their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY this past Friday, Nov. 1. In their first MAAC Championship meet, the women’s and men’s teams placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Football’s Rally Falls Short; Lose to Sacred Heart
The Hawks football team’s fourth quarter rally fell just short as they lost to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart 24-21 on Saturday, Nov. 2. With the loss, the Hawks fell to 4-5 on the season while the Pioneers improved to 8-2.
