From Thursday February 24 to Sunday February 28 the Bowling team hosted the Hawk Flight Invite, their home invitational, in Hamilton Township, NJ.
The team was predicted to place fourth coming into the weekend and had an 8-3 record the first two days. On the last day overall, Monmouth Bowling, which was nationally ranked 24th overall, finished in third place behind Long Island University and Adelphi University.
Coach Karen Grygiel noted, “We had some ups and downs throughout the weekend, but we rallied and finished strong. I’m proud of the progress these student-athletes are making on the lanes.” The team had a strong performance and Senior Dani Seaman, scored 145 for one of the early games to start the weekend.
Senior Saige Yamada scored the highest on average for the Hawks, with one game score of 226. Yamada’s average score was 194 and scored over 200 for two games. Sophomore Jenna Lehrer scored the season’s highest score of 247 for one of the games. She also had three games 200+. In addition, the team combined had seven games over 200 points.
Sophomores Mafe Aguiluz and Siyah Sweeney had successful performances. Aguiluz downed 859 pins over five games and earned a high score of 192 for a game. Sweeney scored a 200+ game and had an average score of 169 for five games.
Freshman Sierra Poole bowled a 215 for one of her games while Junior Jamie Phelan had a total of 519 pins for three rounds. Senior Skylar Smith had an average score of 171 for three games.
Overall, the Hawks went 9-4. In traditional, they went 4-2 with having gone 4-1 in Baker, and 1-1 in championship.
Up next, the Hawks will compete at the elite United States Bowling Congress Sectionals from Friday, March 11 to Sunday, March 13. The team has the Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tennessee and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships in Chesapeake, Virginia as the final meets for the season.
