Monmouth’s Women’s Bowling team started off their season last month in Orlando, Florida, where they finished 11th out of the 18 schools competing. The Hawks kicked off the weekend of Oct. 27 with a 962-876 win over Texas Southern and later went on to advance against Alabama A&M 887-850. In the last matchup of Friday, Monmouth faced No. 1 Vanderbilt but was unable to come out on top and fell short 968-1,017.
The second day of the Destination Orlando event saw a lot of success from the Hawks with an overall 1,070-979 victory against No. 23 Delaware State. All five Hawks contributed to this win, all bowling at least a 192. Senior Siyah Sweeney led the Hawks, bowling a game of 244 while senior Jenna Lehrer recorded a 223, sophomore Desire Villalobos bowled a 208, freshman Morgan Davis tallied 203, and junior Sierra Poole with a 192. Lehrer bowled her 38th career game over 200, and Sweeney claimed her 21st.
While Monmouth excelled on Saturday, Sunday was even more memorable for the Hawks as they went 3-0 in the best-of-seven championship format.
The Hawks went on to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference over the course of two days where they picked up four wins and placed fifth out of the eight schools competing. The Hawks declared wins over Norfolk State and Coppin State on Saturday with 850-808 and 877-781, respectively. On Sunday, the Hawks defeated Morgan State 918-801 and Howard 955-811.
A total of 7,961 pins knocked across 45 games were recorded over the weekend for Monmouth.
Most recently, Monmouth traveled to Woodbridge, Virginia, on Nov. 17 to compete in the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Monmouth started the weekend off strong in a 1,071-1003 victory over No.1 Lincoln Memorial, which was the first win for Monmouth over the Railsplitters since the Intercollegiate Team National Championships in 2021.
In the traditional format on Saturday, Monmouth obtained three consecutive wins, defeating No.19 Central Missouri, 963-960, No. 8 Sam Houston, 1,109-1,044, and Adelphi 991-826. The Hawks, unfortunately, lost to No. 6 Youngstown State to round out the day but finished the weekend off strong with a seven-game win over No. 21 Lincoln Memorial in championship play. Shortly after, the Hawks fell to Wilmington by a six-game loss to finish in 19th place.
The Hawks now have a season total of seven wins over ranked opponents.
Monmouth looks ahead to compete in Lodi, New Jersey, from Dec. 2-3 at the Northeast Classic hosted by William Patterson.
