Why “Roe vs Wade” needs to be reinstated

“Roe V Wade,” which was the case that had recognized the federal constitutional right to abortion in 1973 that was overturned in 2022, needs to be reinstated as it protects a constitutional right to privacy that protects a person’s right to make decisions about their own body, including abortion.

According to the “National Women’s Law Center,” “This right to privacy is part of the right to liberty protected by the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which state that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property, without due process of law.”

Outlawing abortion does not make it end, it only makes it more dangerous as people will still need access to life saving reproductive care. According to “Planned Parent.” “Nearly a fourth of women in America will have an abortion by age 45. Abortion has been practiced for thousands of years in cultures throughout the world.” Abortion is a basic human right and outlawing the practice causes dangerous mishaps. In fact, after the ban more and more women were harmed and turned away from life saving care, causing fully preventable deaths. According to “CAP,” “In Arizona, a 14-year-old, caught in the crosshairs of abortion restrictions, was denied medically indicated medication she had taken for years. A woman in Texas had to drive 18 hours to receive care for an ectopic pregnancy.”

There are countless more stories that aren’t shared publicly and no doctors and nurses are put into the moral dilemma or evening risking their jobs or even face jail time in order to provide care to people suffering due to the overturning of “Roe V Wade.” To remove the legal protection surrounding abortion rights is inhumane and does not allow women to make choices surrounding their own bodies. Women should not need to jeopardize their health and even life in order to have the choice to choose whether or not to have children, people also like to forget that in cases a pregnancy can be deadly to a pregnant person.
