Welcome back hawks! “The Outlook” staff hopes you had a fun and rejuvenating Spring break.
Spring break is a time to refresh your mind and body for the end of the semester. Thus, most of our editors spent their Spring break at home, relaxing with family and friends. “I spent my spring break at home. While I was jealous of many others who got to travel, it felt nice destressing and spending time with my family and friends. It felt nice not to have to do anything for a week after midterms,” shared one editor.
Another editor had a similar experience, “I stayed at school and spent time away from schoolwork and ‘The Outlook’ and spent time with my friends! It was nice to spend time in Long Branch and the surrounding towns without having to worry about a deadline.”
Rather than going on exhausting trips or grinding out future school work, our editors opted to take time away from their busy schedules. “I really did take the majority of the time to spend it with family and relax. Spring semester always feels more overwhelming than Fall, I truly don’t know what it is about it. I worked a lot over Spring break, too, which is so needed with the summer being around the corner. A healthy balance of relaxing, working, and having fun is the perfect Spring break, in my opinion,” explained one editor.
Another editor agreed, “I take Spring break as a time to relax. I always say it is going to be for catching up on work, but we all know that never happens.”
Speaking of school work, our editors shared that this year they actually got lucky – our professors didn’t assign us too much work over break.
One editor said, “Personally, I have no work over break but I don’t like having professors who assign work on the one week we get off to destress and relax. This is supposed to be our time to travel, rest, or do anything else without having to focus on schoolwork.
“My professors didn’t assign too much work over break, thankfully. But most professors do need to ease up, especially during breaks. We work our butts off all semester long, and a true break is needed for our mental health,” added another editor.
However, that doesn’t mean we still didn’t procrastinate, “I was lucky that not a lot of my professors assigned work due directly after break but all the deadlines I have are going to be around the same time the week after, kind of leading to the perfect storm. While my professors didn’t intentionally intend for me to be doing work over break, the assignments were looming over me.”
Since we didn’t spend much time on school, some editors felt Spring break can cause students to fall into an academic funk, “I thought Spring break would put me in the mindset to finish the semester strong but now that it’s almost over, I’m finding myself more snapped out of the mindset to handle the busy schedule I have at school.”
Another editor shared the concern, “Hopefully, bouncing back into classes will be easy. But I can’t lie this break was an obvious tease and I need classes to END. I’m SO ready for summer.”
However, other editors appreciated the time spring break gave them to relax, making them ready to tackle the end of the semester. “Spring break encourages me to get back to work for the rest of the semester. I feel so burnt out in the weeks prior to the break. I find this time really refreshing,” explained one editor.
Another editor shared a similar sentiment, “I think it’s more refreshing than not. It’s a week off after exams and so when we get back, there will be new lessons and it’ll take a week or two (likely) for papers, quizzes, and tests to surface, so it provides time to get back into the school mindset.”
As for our senior editors, spring break served as a time to reflect on how quick the school year is going and how precious these last few weeks of class are, “Spring break made me realize that school is coming to an end and that I should enjoy the rest of the time the best I can with the people I love,” said an editor.
Another editor unequivocally agreed, “Coming back from school after the break made me realize how little time us seniors have left on campus! I’m so excited to end the school year off on a good note and start planning for graduation.”
