Men’s lacrosse nets 20 goals in victory over Hampton

Monmouth Men’s Lacrosse delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, Mar. 28, defeating Hampton 20–10 in a CAA matchup at Hesse Field.

The Hawks came out fast and took control early, using strong ball movement and efficient scoring to build a lead that Hampton could not recover from. Monmouth set the tone in the first half, jumping ahead with consistent offensive pressure and taking advantage of scoring opportunities. By halftime, the Hawks had created a comfortable margin and remained in control for the rest of the game.

A major highlight of the game came from senior attackman Ty Caffarelli, who scored his 100th career goal during the win. He scored with three goals total, playing a key role in Monmouth’s offensive success. His milestone goal came during a stretch where the Hawks were building momentum and extending their lead.

Caffarelli was not the only standout performer. Senior attackman Connor Gorman added five goals for the Hawks to lead the team, while four other Monmouth players scored at least two goals. Their contributions helped keep the offense consistent and allowed Monmouth to continue scoring throughout the game.

Senior midfielder Riley Chester and junior attackman Matt Porazzo were a few names that scored two goals, helping add to the Monmouth lead. Junior midfielder Bradley Wyckoff, junior attackman Brady Brown, and senior midfielder Ryan O’Rourke each contributed one goal, rounding out the scoring for the Hawks. In total, Monmouth had ten different goal scorers, showing strong balance and collaboration across the lineup. It also helped when the Hawks attempted more than double the shots Hampton did with their 57 attempts compared to Hampton’s 20.

In addition to goal scoring, several players contributed as passers, recording assists and helping create scoring opportunities. The team’s ability to move the ball effectively allowed them to find open shots and maintain offensive pressure against Hampton’s defense.

Monmouth finished with 20 goals on a high number of shot attempts, consistently testing the Hampton goalkeeper. The Hawks were able to convert their chances at a high rate, which played a major role in building and maintaining their lead.

Faceoffs and ground balls were also important factors in the game with Monmouth excelling in these categories with a 50-12 win ratio in ground balls and 26-7 in faceoffs. This allowed the Hawks to dictate the pace and limit Hampton’s opportunities to respond.

Defensively, Monmouth held Hampton to 10 goals and avoided allowing any extended scoring runs. The defense forced difficult shots and stayed organized throughout the game. In goal, junior Dylan Cadigan made several saves, especially during key moments when Hampton attempted to gain momentum.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Monmouth continuing to add to its lead. Hampton managed to score, but each time they did, the Hawks responded with goals of their own. This prevented Hampton from closing the gap and kept the game out of reach.

By the fourth quarter, Monmouth had fully controlled the game, maintaining a steady lead and continuing to execute on both ends of the field. The consistent scoring and defensive effort allowed the Hawks to close out the game without any late-game pressure.

In the end, Monmouth’s 20–10 win over Hampton was defined by strong offensive production and contributions from multiple players. The team will travel to Towson to take on the No. 17 ranked Tigers next week in an effort to keep their winning streak alive.
