MU student tragically dies in car accident

On March 28, Scott Timothy Sanczyk, passed away after sustaining major injuries in an automobile accident at age 20. He was a first semester business major at Monmouth University after transferring from Lafayette College.


Sanczyk left behind his parents, Tom and Jackie Sanczyk, Stephanie and Conner Dolan (sister and brother-in-law), Steven and Spencer (brothers), and Diana Ferraro (grandmother).


Sanczyk graduated in 2024 from Kinnelon High School. His obituary states that he became a founding member and captain of the high school’s bowling team. He also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He was known as “everyone’s best friend,” and referred to as Scotty by close ones.


Apart from playing sports, Sanczyk loved watching them. He was a huge fan of the New York Jets and Seton Hall Pirates men’s basketball. He was also very passionate about video games such as Madden and NHL.


According to his obituary, Sanczyk was described in having a playful humor that “made every gathering brighter.” It continues, “More than anything, Scotty’s life was defined by the love he shared with his family and the friendships he built everywhere he went. His kindness, loyalty, humor, and ability to connect with anyone he met made his life a true blessing to all who knew him.”


On the Monmouth University website President Patrick F. Leahy addressed the sad news, “The University grieves the tragic and untimely loss of a member of our community and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fellow students at this most difficult time. Flags on campus have been lowered in Scott’s honor.”
