Monmouth men’s basketball began their three-game road trip with an 85-71 victory at Canisius before dropping game two of the trip to Niagara, 72-77.

Following Tuesday’s heartbreaking two-point loss to Fairfield 53-55, Monmouth returned home falling short to Saint Peter’s 81-69 on Sunday afternoon at the OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch.

Men’s basketball split their games this past week losing a tight battle on the road to Saint Peter’s Wednesday before continuing their undefeated season at the OceanFirst Bank Center Sunday afternoon against Rider.

Men’s basketball remained atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after back-to-back wins this past weekend against conference opponents Niagara and Iona led by junior guard Deion Hammond’s 47 combined points.

11th ranked Monmouth football hosted and were victorious in their first ever Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff game against visiting Holy Cross on Saturday 44-27 as senior captain linebacker and FCS New Jersey Player of the Year Evan Powell anchored the defense with two interceptions.

12th ranked Monmouth football clinched their first ever Big South conference title and a spot in the playoffs after defeating Campbell on the road in North Carolina 47-10 behind a career-best day from junior running back and Big South Offensive Player of the Week Pete Guerriero.
