Women’s Soccer Victorious Against QU

MU women’s soccer was able to improve their record to 11-4 overall (6-1 MAAC) as they defeated conference rival, the Quinnipiac Bobcats, with a score of 1-0 on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

Currently, the women are on a five game win streak in conference play and lead the league. The win over QU gave MU its second shutout in a row, bringing the Hawk’s total shutouts for the season to eight. The shutout also accounted for head coach Krissy Turner’s 199th career win.

Less than 11 minutes into the first half, the Hawks scored the only goal of the game as freshman forward Rachelle Ross found the back of the net. Sophomore forward Alexis McTamney was given the assist, her fifth of the season. As of now, Ross leads the Hawks in goals with seven and has a team-high 17 points.

The Hawks outshot the Bobcats, 14-7, and held an advantage in corner kicks, 5-2. Goalkeeper Nicole D’Agostino played the entire game for MU and registered two saves.

The Hawks will compete in their final home game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 22 against MAAC opponent Iona at 7 pm. They will then travel to Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, NY to compete against Marist on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Their final regular season game will be against Rider University on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Cohen Field in Lawrenceville, NJ.

These final three games will help the Hawks prepare for the 2014 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championships which is set to begin on Saturday, Nov. 1.
