Record-Setting Weekend for Track & Field

Men and Women’s Track and Field Team compete in the first of back-to-back weekends at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in the UPenn 10-Team Select Meet on Jan. 15. It proved to be a very successful day for the Hawks, with a number of records set.

Yasmeen Tinsley, a junior from Arlington, Virginia, has been a powerhouse for Monmouth and adds on to her records, breaking her third school record of the season in the Women’s 60m hurdles event with a time of 8.55 seconds. This is her new personal best by just .01 second, to place her third in the CAA. Tinsley did not stop there and set another personal best time of 24.72 in the Women’s 200m event, where she sits sixth in the conference. Tinsley set four records her freshman season and started this season off hot, setting a school record in just the first meet of the season on Dec. 1 at the Rutgers Holiday Classic.

Will Freeman, Jr., Jordan Hart, Kevin Collura, and Jordan Ricketts came together for a total time of 3:20.41 in the Men’s 4×400 relay to win the event by 3.27 seconds.

Monmouth continued to excel in the field events. Junior Rett Schnoor set his new personal record in the long jump, winning the event at 5.80m, while Junior Ahmad Brooks put up his best triple jump performance of the season with a 14.58 jump. He won this event and now ranks sixth in Monmouth history.

Freshman Paola Valle Alarcia made her mark in the school record book for the first time with her 11.48m leap in the Women’s triple jump and freshman Katie Fisher is now tied for eighth in school history with a pole vault mark of 3.50m.

According to the Monmouth Athletics Website, Head Coach Mike Nelson shared, “Saturday’s meet was a very solid start for us! 2024 began with a school record as Yasmeen Tinsley broke her own record in the 60m hurdles. The overall goal for this meet is to get in a rust buster effort and learn what we need to work on. We accomplished that goal, and we’ll build upon today’s performances. We look forward to returning to Ocean Breeze next weekend for the Villanova Invitational. Fly Hawks!”
