Michael Quigg Named CAA Honorable Mention

For the second year in a row, Quigg is a Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention. Quigg recently finished a 2023 season in which he started every game for the Hawks and led the team in forced turnovers (17), which is seventh most in a single season in program history.

On Feb. 27, he was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week. This season, he will once again lead the Hawks defense.

Quigg has made quite an impact on Monmouth lacrosse over the years. Some of his memorable highlights include being named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, playing in all 11 games with 10 starts as a sophomore, earning 12th-ranked scoring defense in the country, and the second-best man-down unit as a junior.

The aspiring business finance major works hard in the classroom as well. Before Monmouth, he earned the 2018 US Lacrosse Academic All-American title. Quigg has been a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society since 2022 at Monmouth and was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. During his senior year, Quigg was announced as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Team. To qualify for the Academic All District team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale).

Monmouth is one of the 15 members within the CAA division including their 23 out of 24 Division I sports teams. The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), originally known as the Colonial Athletic Association, is a collegiate sports conference connected with the NCAA’s Division I that has full members from Massachusetts to South Carolina. Monmouth University recently joined the CAA in July of 2022. Competing in it will allow Monmouth “to tap major media markets up and down the East Coast,” said Patrick Leahy, President of Monmouth University. He continued, “This gives us an important opportunity to extend the Monmouth brand and to shine a spotlight on the incredible work that happens day in and day out on this campus.”

Monmouth opens its second season in the CAA on Feb. 10, hosting LIU at 12 p.m.
