Women’s Lacrosse Face Quinnipiac in Home Opener

After five-straight road games, Monmouth women’s lacrosse faced Quinnipiac in their first home game of the season.

These two teams have had quite the history, dating all the way back to 1998. Since then, 30 games have been played between them and Monmouth leads the series 25-5, picking up one of those wins in Saturday’s matchup.

On Saturday Mar. 2, Monmouth hosted Quinnipiac in a rainy matchup that resulted in a 12-7 win over Quinnipiac. Senior Mya Brock led the team with a season high five goals, while junior Caroline Brennan had two goals, to give her a team-best 18 goals on the season. Sophomore Sophia Lymberis recorded her first multi-goal game as a Hawk with two goals as well.

Monmouth managed to make a dominating comeback in the second half after going into halftime down by three, 5-2. Shortly into the third quarter, Quinnipiac expanded their lead even further, 6-2. The Hawks responded by outscoring the Bobcats 10-2 in just the second half to claim their first home victory, 12-7.
In goal, freshman Katie Sullivan finished with 12 saves and held the Bobcats to just three goals within the first three quarters. Sullivan has been a key component in Monmouth’s success so far this year, and as just a freshman has a lot in store in the upcoming years. Sullivan had her first collegiate start against Rutgers Feb. 21 where she faced a season high 39 shots, saving a season high 17 of them.

This was the sixth consecutive home opener Monmouth has won, and 12th consecutive game won against the Bobcats.

Monmouth will travel to Princeton to face the Tigers today Mar. 6 at 7:00pm for their last matchup before CAA play begins.
