The Math Learning Center will be holding its first-ever Math Mixer, on Sep. 17, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., The event will be led by Sevda Sadik, the center’s new coordinator.
“I want to give people the chance to meet people,” Sadik states regarding the event, “Meeting MLC tutors and Math Department faculty allows students to identify who can help them; and as a faculty member, I can say that we love being able to interact with our students outside of the classroom. Also, an event is a great way to get to know your classmates and make new friends.”
The event will provide ingredients to make various cost-free math-inspired mocktails, all students need to do is bring a cup.
“I hope students take away a few things: where the MLC is, who works at the MLC, who works in the Math Department, and what resources they have available when it comes to math.”
Sadik took over the MLC last semester and is planning a center revamp to create more events for students to get involved in.
“This year will be a transition for the MLC, but I am planning to introduce workshops from Review Sessions to Math Talks! Make sure to check out our websites for information.”
The Math Learning Center is located in Howard Hall, room 203. “We are open Monday Tuesday Wednesday 10 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Students can find us at Howard 203 for both Appointment and Drop-In tutoring. Appointments are made twenty-four (24) hours in advance through Navigate, but you can always walk over without one for a Drop-In. New this year, we have Generalist tutors and Specialist tutors; Generalists will help with almost any course, while Specialists will only help with specific courses. Make sure to check out our Tutor Schedule on our MyMU Website before coming to find out when a tutor for your specific class will be there! Also new, we now offer group sessions, so you and two (2) additional friends can all work with a tutor together! Don’t need help but want a place to work on math alone or with friends? You can come on by for that too.”
