Counseling and Prevention Services (CPS) hosts “Sex & Disability: Navigating Challenges & Celebrating Pleasure” event

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the Counseling and Prevention Services (CPS) hosted “Sex & Disability: Navigating Challenges & Celebrating Pleasure” event over zoom on Feb. 10.

“We decided to host this event because it promotes a healthy, informed and empowered approach to sexuality. Many students have limited or misinformed knowledge about sex and relationships. Addressing common challenges can be helpful and empowering for students,” stated Kimberly Hill, clinical counselor at CPS.

Hill continued, “Attendees gained insights into the intersection of sexuality, disability, and justice in a compassionate, inclusive space.” The focus of this event was to honor diverse identities and lived experiences through an open, judgement-free space.

The event featured professional speaker Chels Morgan. “Chels Morgan has expertise in trauma-responsive, sexuality education, mental health advocacy and cultural competency. Chels Morgan’s framework is about empowering spaces that honor diverse identities and lived experiences,” said Hill. Morgan is a CSE based in Chicago, IL who specializes in trauma-informed sex education and pleasure activism.

“Transparency about sexuality and sex on college campuses promotes safety, encourages consent and healthy relationships as well as helps reduce stigma and shame. College is a time of exploration and personal growth. Students deserve to be equipped with knowledge and tools to navigate their relationships responsibly,” concluded Hill.
