The Monmouth men’s lacrosse opened the 2025 season with a tough 9-7 loss to Manhattan Saturday Feb. 8 at Kessler Stadium.
Monmouth took control early, jumping to a 2-0 lead behind goals from junior attack Connor Gorman, senior midfield Luke Cole, and junior attack Ty Caffarelli.
In the third, the Hawk’s extended their lead to 6-3 with goals from sophomore attack Brendan Dundas and senior midfield Nick Teets. However, Manhatten responded with a 4-1 run.
Despite leading at halftime, the Hawks could not hold off a second-half surge from the Jaspers.
The Jaspers sealed the win with fourth quarter goals from Manhattan’s Sean Shelko and Kelly DuPree, while Monmouth was held scoreless. Graduate student and goalie Tommy Heller made 14 saves, but allowed two extra to get by him.
Gorman led Monmouth with three goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Ryan O’Rourke added three assists. Manhattan’s Drew Hiner and Shelko each netted two goals, with Connor Engel scoring a goal with an additional two assists.
The Hawks (0-1) will look to rebound when they face Boston University on Feb. 14.
