Men’s Tennis Cruising Through Fantastic Spring Season

The Monmouth University men’s tennis team earned its fourth and fifth consecutive victories after coming out on top against both Norfolk State and Hampton in a doubleheader on Friday, March 31.

The Hawks kicked things off bright and early in Norfolk, Virginia, cruising to a 4-0 win over the Spartans. All three doubles positions came out victorious for Monmouth. Lucca Silva and Alexander Zuckerman gave Monmouth a strong start, defeating Ibrahim Abbas and Saadiq Hinton 6-0. Teammates Victor Castro and Niels Van Noord also came out on top in their doubles matchup with a 6-3 win over Norfolk State’s Adam Kaczmarek and Federico Rebecchini. Arthur Dussaubat and Christof Zeiler secured the doubles competition sweep for the Hawks, defeating Boris Lunin and Hugo Massoni Lena 6-2.

Monmouth saw equal success in singles competition thanks to strong performances from Zeiler, Dussaubat, and Silva. With his double bagel against Norfolk State’s Hinton, Dussaubat extended his personal singles winning streak to four straight matches.

The three victories in both doubles and singles competition was enough for a 4-0 victory over the Spartans, improving Monmouth’s record to 10-4 on the season heading into the second matchup of their doubleheader later that afternoon.

The Hawks traveled to Newport News, Virginia to compete against the Hampton Pirates in the team’s first ever CAA matchup. Monmouth once again conquered the competition, earning their second 4-0 victory of the day to extend their winning streak to five matches and secure their first CAA win in program history.

The Hawks started off strong with a pair of wins in doubles competition. Monmouth’s Dmitry Bezborodov and Van Noord defeated Hampton’s Erden Er and Daniel Flynn 6-3 while Gabriel Busato and Castro came out on top against Ange-Kevin Koua and Jeremiah Williams, 6-2.

Coming off of a pair of doubles victories, Monmouth kept the ball rolling as they rattled off three consecutive singles wins. Teammates Bezborodov and Castro also tallied wins for Monmouth to secure the 4-0 match win over Hampton, allowing the team to improve to 11-4 on the year and 1-1 against CAA teams.
