Monmouth came back empty-handed after a trip to Charleston, South Carolina, where the Hawks faced the College of Charleston over the course of three consecutive days, Apr. 12 through Apr. 14.
Prior to facing Charleston, Monmouth stopped in Princeton, New Jersey, to face Princeton where they won 10-3.
A huge third inning for Monmouth saw 12 batters up to bat, seven of them getting around to home plate. The Hawks extended their lead in the fourth with a run from infielder #5 Austin Denlinger whose RBI triple scored outfielder #9 Chris Andrews.
The fifth inning was scoreless for both teams before Monmouth added another run in the top of the sixth. Denlinger’s second triple of the day brought infielder #1 Casey Caufield in to make it a 9-1 game.
Princeton added a run in the bottom of the seventh, as well as a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Monmouth’s run in the top of the ninth extended their lead to put Princeton out of reach with a final score of 10-3. Monmouth is now 1-1 against Princeton.
Monmouth will face Villanova today, Wednesday, Apr. 17 before facing Elon in a three-day series down in North Carolina starting Friday, Apr. 19.
