Mens soccer (4-0-5)stands unbeaten after facing College of Charleston (7-2-1) in a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matchup on Saturday Sept. 28 down in South Carolina, where the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
Pressure was applied early on, on both sides of the field as the Hawks and the Cougars went back-and-forth, allowing both goalkeepers to get a piece of the ball.
As the Hawks continued to apply pressure, forward Jakob Friedman and forward Victor Andersson attacked Charleston goalkeeper Olly Marshall, but were unable to get past him.
Goalkeeper Eryk Dymora secured his fourth shutout of the season with five saves, the 17th of his career. Dymora played a key role in the Hawks performance on Saturday, preventing the Cougars from getting on the board.
Dymora made a pair of saves early on in the contest as Marshall made a save of his own from an Erik Reis shot. Reis along with defensemen Bastian Hatcher led the Hawks with three shots each, two of Reis’ on goal.
Monmouth and Charleston continued to fight, a majority of the first half played in the midfield. The score remained 0-0 at the half.
In the 57th minute, Reis was able to get a piece of the ball, but was stopped once again by Marshal. Dymora responded in the 70th minute with a pair of diving saves that kept the Cougars off the board.
Neither team backed down, battling until the very end, but neither team was able to get on the board before the end of regulation.
Both goalkeepers remained solid in goal, and after a long and hard fought battle the Hawks remain unbeaten not only in CAA play but on the season. The all-time series now sits at 2-2-1 between the Cougars and the Hawks over the course of twelve years.
The Hawks finished with nine shots, four of them on goal allowing Charleston goalkeeper to make four saves. While the Cougars finished with 11 shots, five of them on goal.
Monmouth will face Delaware Saturday Oct. 5 where they will look to secure their second ever win over Delaware, as they sit with one loss and one win against them going into the match.
