Women’s Soccer shuts out Columbia to extend unbeaten streak to six

Monmouth Women’s Soccer earned a shutout victory against Ivy League opponent Columbia on Sunday, Sep. 13 as they have now gone six games in a row without losing.

Despite being outshot 19-8, goalkeeper Tallulah Miller had seven saves, tying the most she’s had in a game in her career, to help Monmouth secure the win. Miller earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row for her performance.

It only took 45 seconds for Monmouth to strike, as sophomore Brooke De Almeida scored her first career collegiate goal to quickly give Monmouth a 1-0 lead. In the 15th minute, junior Ashley Lavrich scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give Monmouth a 2-0 lead.

Despite the two-goal advantage, Columbia outshot Monmouth 7-5 in the first half, and that trend continued into the second half as Columbia dominated possession and outshot Monmouth 12-3. Despite this, the efforts of the Monmouth defense and Miller kept Columbia’s offense at bay.

Monmouth held on and secured a 2-0 victory, and earned another shutout. The shutout was the Hawks’ third in a row and fifth of the season in eight games. Monmouth has not allowed a goal since Aug. 30 against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Almeida and Lavrich scored the Monmouth goals, while freshman Saar van der Boom and sophomore Evangeline Perdomo added assists.

The Hawks conclude non-conference play with a record of 5-1-2. The lone loss on the season came in the second win of the season against Wagner on Aug. 16. Monmouth continues the trend of having strong starts to their seasons. In 2025, Monmouth went 5-2-1 in non-conference play. In 2024, they went 4-1-3. The Hawks have not had a losing record in conference play since starting 1-3 in 2023.

Monmouth opens up CAA play with three straight road games, with the first one being in Long Island against Stony Brook on Sep. 21. Last year, Stony Brook ended Monmouth’s season in the CAA Tournament.

Following the Stony Brook game, the Hawks will travel to the Carolinas to face UNC Wilmington on Thursday, Sep. 24 and Charleston on Sunday, Sep. 27. The Hawks home opener in conference play will be on Sunday, Oct. 4 against the Drexel Dragons.
