Not All Change is Bad
Change is hard. Sometimes it’s scary and uncomfortable and other times it’s exciting and new. Here at The Outlook, we undergo such changes every May when we’re expected to transition from freshmen to sophomores, juniors to seniors, or seniors to full-time, working adults. The thought of moving on after getting comfortable in the positions we’ve occupied for two semesters is unsettling. No matter what we are planning to do when finals week is over, the uncertainty of those future experiences is what makes us nervous or excited to move on.

Dollar Big Macs after midnight. Phat Spruces. Chicken Quesadillas and Steak Burritos. These all become things of the past once you convert to a vegetarian diet, but do not stop for a second to think this diet will come without great benefits. A plant-based diet not only contributes to better health and weight management, but also it benefits the environment. For individuals who have an extensive taste for different foods, a vegetarian diet on the University’s campus is feasible.

My journey at The Outlook started with Casey Wolfe (whom you’ll meet later) and I deciding to go to the Involvement Fair. I was a sophomore and she was a freshman, both of us looking to get involved. I ended up talking to Dr. Patten who introduced me to Sandra and I never looked back.

Real World, I Think This Is the Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship
Goodbye is such a bittersweet concept, especially when put in the terms of a graduation. On one hand, you are excited about the next step in life, for whatever that may be, a great unknown that you have never experienced before. Yet on the other hand you are leaving a place that has become a home to you over the years, and with the family like ties that have been formed with friends with that home. Suddenly you begin to see everything as if it is the first time, the cafeteria food suddenly tastes slightly better, the squirrels much cuter and the landscape even appears slightly greener.
After Two Decades of Service, Thomas Pearson Steps Down as the Provost
Dr. Thomas Pearson decided he will be stepping down as provost at the end of the spring 2014 semester after 22 years in the position.
The Community Garden Opens to Volunteers and Local Residents
Volunteer members from the nearby local communities joined University employees for the opening of the Monmouth University Community Garden on Saturday, April 26. The garden, now approaching its fifth summer of operation, has donated approximately eight tons of produce to various charities across Monmouth County in the past four years.
Debate Team Coaches Asbury Park Debate Teams to Playoff Rounds || Club & Greek
The University Debate team coached the Asbury Park debate team to a 4th place award at a debate tournament at the Institute for Collaborative Education in New York City this weekend. The Asbury team was coached after school every Tuesday afternoon by MU debaters Dan Roman, Kelly Craig, Sam Maynard, Jessica Roberts, Dylan Maynard, Ryan Kelly, Danielle Doud, Angela Ryan, Michelle Grushko, Saliha Younas, Monica Santos, Michael Hamilton, and Nick Whittaker. The MU debaters took the Asbury debaters to three weekend tournaments affiliated with New York’s Urban Debate League this year, but the third proved to be the charm as this was the first time the Asbury team made into the playoff rounds. The Asbury team of Amaris Williams and Sharif James took a 4th place trophy after being coached throughout the year by MU debaters Kelly Craig and Dylan Maynard. Amaris Williams also took a 5th place individual speaking award.
President Brown Looks to the University’s Future
As President Paul Brown wraps up his first academic year at the University, he continues to prepare and manage the strategic planning process that will continue to enrich academic programs, campus facilities and funding opportunities.
The GMO Debate Across America Continues
Much debate has arisen over whether labeling genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in America should be enforced as a law or banned from the country. As consumers continue to learn more information about the genetic modification process and its prominence in the food system, more people are anxious to know which foods contain GMOs and which do not.
