Some people may neglect hand and foot care, but it is extremely important for these parts of our body to maintain their moisture and remain strong throughout the cold weather. You can prevent cracked skin by selecting your favorite oil or rich balm at night and then applying warm cozy socks to sleep.

Additionally, you must add sunscreen to your routine. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just a summertime necessity, but something you should use all year round to protect your skin.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, risk of sunburn is still prevalent in the winter months because of the persisting UV radiation. Just because it’s not hot outside, doesn’t mean we’re protected from the sun’s harmful rays.

In addition, gently exfoliating is another key step in your skincare routine that will help keep your skin hydrated by removing dead skin cells that prevent moisture from entering the skin. Get rid of this barrier by exfoliating your face and body twice a week.

One can never go wrong with taking vitamins, as well. Taking supplements during the winter can help your body get the vitamins it may be lacking during the colder months. Intermountain Health recommends using vitamin E, which you can find in most moisturizers, to keep your skin from becoming dry and flaky.

Vitamin D is another essential nutrient, which can be hard to come by in the winter months with the shortened days and the decreased amount of time spent outside. Try taking a supplement to guarantee your body is taking in the recommended amount.
