This past week, the New York Jets and former Detroit Lions Defensive Coordinator
Aaron Glenn agreed on a five year contract to link Glenn as the new head coach of the New York
Jets.
While the Jets were very open minded in their head coaching search, interviewing
candidates such as Rex Ryan, Brian Flores, Jeff Hafley, Josh McCown, and a few others, it
seemed as if Aaron Glenn was their top choice all along.
Glenn, who was originally drafted by the Jets with the 12th overall pick in the first round
of the 1994 NFL draft as a Cornerback, spent his first eight seasons of his career with the historic
franchise.
During his tenure as a player, Glenn was a 2x pro Bowler in 1997 & 1998. After his
playing career concluded, his coaching career launched with stints with the Cleveland Browns,
New Orleans Saints, and most recently, the Detroit Lions Defensive Coordinator from
2021-2024.
Glenn has been highly respected over the past few years after turning around the Detroit
Defense. It’s a full circle moment for Glenn, who returns home to where his career started just
over 30 years ago.
Regarding the hire, Mike Gruseke, a senior communications major and lifelong Jets fan
said, “I am very excited about the Aaron Glenn hire. Glenn is a former Jets player that truly cares
about the organization’s success. He has proven that he has a great defensive mind and has the
ability to fire up a locker room, which the Jets really need.”
Nick Rossini, a sophmore homeland security major and Jets fan said, “Im happy he’s
the new head coach [of the Jets] mainly because he was a great defensive coordinator on the
Lions and everyone knows that defense wins championships… I think if Glenn can get a strong
staff around him he can be a great leader.”
It’s reported that Glenn is willing to give future Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers another
crack at the starting job here in NY, which will be interesting for fans around the league to see
how this unfolds.
Rodgers, now 41 years old, had a decent season throwing for 28 TD’s with 11
Interceptions, however, the team struggled once again finishing the season 5-12 and missing the
playoffs for a 14th consecutive season.
Overall, it seems as if the vast majority of Jets fans are excited about the hire and have
some hope for the franchise that is looking to get back on track after years and years of suffering.
