Monmouth University’s spring football practice begins as Head Coach Kevin Callahan prepares for the upcoming season.
After a winter of strengthening and conditioning, Monmouth’s football team started practicing for spring football on Apr. 1. The Hawks are getting ready for the spring showcase on Apr. 27 at 1:00 pm at Kessler Stadium.
With a few coaches gone from last season, the Hawks welcome three assistant coaches. Codey Cole, the new Defensive Line coach, who recently served in the same position at Bucknell, where he helped two players become part of the 2024 All-Patriot League. Before Bucknell, he coached at Findlay, which was ranked among the nation’s best scoring defense, total defense, and run defense.
Louis DiRienzo Jr. is the new Linebackers coach, as well as the Defensive Run Game Coordinator. Before joining Monmouth’s coaching staff, he served five seasons at Springfield, where they won multiple conference titles. Before working at Rutgers in 2019 and Wagner in 2018, DiRienzo had a great collegiate career as a team captain and strong linebacker.
Last but not least, Kamau Dumas is a new addition to the Defensive staff, however, not a new face to Monmouth. He was part of Monmouth’s 2017 playoff team and helped lead the program to an MIAA Conference Championship. The Hawks are excited to add more success to their coaching staff.
With a few players gone from last season, keep your eye out for other players moving up and getting the chance to display their talents.
