Women’s soccer continued its strong defensive season against Drexel this past Sunday to end in a scoreless tie.
The Hawks controlled the game most of the way, outshooting the Dragons 7-2 in the first half. Two strong scoring opportunities came for Monmouth early in the first half. The first came from junior midfielder Maddie DeMaio to the bottom right side. The second came less than two minutes later from junior forward Ashley Lavrich, this attempt going to the bottom center. Both shots were saved by Drexel’s sophomore goalkeeper Gracie Sullivan.
The Hawks kept the pressure on the Dragons through the first half with another two high quality attempts. Junior defender Grace Notarfrancesco tried to send one through the center bottom of the goal but Sullivan had the save. In the 39th minute, freshman forward Daniella Butash forced Sullivan to make yet another save on a shot to the top of the net.
Monmouth’s defense held Drexel to just two total shots in the first half, neither on goal.
The Hawks stayed in control in the second half both offensively and defensively. The Dragons were only able to get three more shots off while Monmouth added another seven to their afternoon. The Hawks were able to generate six corner kicks but were unable to capitalize on the attempts.
In the 51st minute, senior midfielder Chloe Messer sent one to the bottom center to force Sullivan to save another shot on goal. 15 minutes later, sophomore midfielder Brook De Almeida kept the pressure on Sullivan with a shot to the lower half. Sullivan made yet another save to keep the game scoreless.
It was not until the 50th minute that graduate goalkeeper Tallulah Miller, faced a shot on goal from the Dragons. The attempt came from junior midfielder Ava Kiwak to the bottom center of the goal. Miller made the save, continuing her stunning performance in goal this season and to keep the game tied at zero.
DeMaio sent another strong attempt in the 86th minute, however neither team was able to break through the other’s defense in the final minutes and it resulted in a scoreless tie.
Including the Sunday tie with Drexel, Monmouth has shutout seven opponents so far this year; Miller was in net for six of those games. This shutout pushed her past her 2025 record of five shutouts in a season. This shutout also pushed this year’s Hawks to be the first since 2023 to have had at least seven shutouts through their first 12 games.
The draw pushed the Hawks to a 6-2-4 overall record and to 1-1-2 in CAA play. They will continue their conference play this Thursday at home where they will take on the Campbell Fightin’ Camels at 6 p.m. The game can be viewed on FloCollege.
